Gate Work in Each Town

Gates are built and hung the same way everywhere, but the ground, the drive and the way a gate is used change from one town to the next.

Ann Arbor

Ann Arbor has the widest mix: older houses on tree-lined streets, newer subdivisions, and apartment and office lots where a gate opens many times a day. Under the big street trees, leaves collect in slide gate tracks and around swing gate hinges every fall, and a gate that starts to drag in October is often running over a layer of them.

Ypsilanti

Ypsilanti, just east of Ann Arbor, mixes older houses with business lots. A slide gate across a business entrance carries far more traffic than a house gate, so its rollers and track wear sooner, and in winter plowed snow tends to end up banked along the fence line where the gate has to slide. A business gate also often answers to more than one kind of entry: a keypad for staff, remotes for regular drivers, an intercom for visitors.

Saline

Saline, to the south, runs from newer subdivisions to properties at the edge of farmland. Where a gate stands at the end of a long drive, the power run to the opener, the reach of the remotes and the place of the keypad by the road matter as much as the gate itself. A gate nobody watches open and close can also hide a fault for a while, such as a sensor knocked out of line or a latch that no longer catches.

Dexter

Dexter, northwest of Ann Arbor on the Huron River, sits on rolling ground. A drive that climbs away from the road can leave a swing gate too little room to open over the rise, which is where a slide gate is the usual answer. On a slope, a swing gate that is not hung level also tends to drift open or shut by itself once it is unlatched.

Towns, Addresses and Kinds of Gates

My community is not listed. Can I still call?

Yes. Call (734) 537-8764 with the address and what the gate needs, and ask. Whether a job outside the four towns can be taken on depends on where it is and what it involves, so that question is settled on the phone.

My mail says one town, but I live just outside it. Which counts?

Mailing towns, township lines and ZIP codes do not always match. If your ZIP code is on the list, the address is in the area. If it is not, call and ask rather than ruling it out.

What kinds of gates do you work on in these towns?

Swing gates and slide gates, from a single walk gate to an entrance gate across a commercial lot, along with their openers, keypads, remotes and safety sensors. Repairs take in sagging hinges, worn rollers, bent tracks and burned-out operator motors; new work means setting posts and hanging the gate.

Is the work the same at a business as at a house?

Yes. The work runs from residential driveways to commercial lots, for homeowners, property managers and small business owners alike. A gate at a business goes through the same stages as one at a house, set out under Our Process.
